*Yawn*

A blog attempting to represent the views of an entire company, could it be more bland? Perhaps a redeeming quality is that the format reads better than press releases. The image flashing through my head is the bankers at Morgan Stanley putting a gun to Evan's head...

Missing an opportunity to stay in touch

Yes, it does seem a bit forced. But nevertheless, I'm going to watch it to see if they do anything other than push propaganda through it. What would be more worthwhile is a blog that combined the thoughts of developers, sales people, pundits, etc. from the inside -- an aggregator. One thing that I like about some corporate blogs, e.g. the one that the Mailblocks founder used before he passed away, is that they can be used to push out messages about their experiences and thoughts doing product design and let users throw them some feedback bypassing any corporate filters that keep the direct communication from users to designers from really happening. But this is not what's happening with the Google Blog so far. I guess they probably see enough feedback all over the web, but this seems an opportunity to speak directly to customers. And as Google gets bigger and bigger, I imagine the direct touch with customers moves further and further away.

customers move further and further away

RE>"And as Google gets bigger and bigger, I imagine the direct touch with customers moves further and further away."

That's a great point, but I wonder if a blog is the right mechanism to fix this? I think it's more important that Google understands customers than vice versa, but the blog just broadcasts the company's POV. And turning on comments here would be useless, could you imagine how broad/diluged it would be?
